Emanuel Lasker

The St Petersburg 1909 tournament was the only event that World Champion Emanuel Lasker contested between Cambridge Springs in 1904 and St Petersburg in 1914. The old guard of Steinitz, Chigorin and Pillsbury had gone whilst Alekhine and Capablanca had not yet arrived on the scene. As it was the tournament turned into a battle between Lasker and the emerging talent of Akiba Rubinstein. In the end both tied for first place in a strong field of nineteen players.

This book follows the tournament round by round with all the games, together with Lasker's own annotations to them. Includes indexes of players and openings as well as the tournament crosstable and the tournament programme. This is the first algebraic edition of Lasker's 1909 book which was translated into English, by Teichmann, in 1910.

Published 2008, softback, 190 pages.
