Efstratios GrivasSample pages (pdf)
The Grivas Sicilian (1.e4, c5; 2.Nf3, Nc6; 3.d4, cxd4; 4.Nxd4, Qb6;) aims to decentralise White's knight on d4. Later Black will have to retreat the exposed queen, say to c7, but then White usually returns the knight to d4 - leaving Black a tempo up in many positions.
The Grivas Sicilian offers Black many new possibilities and ideas whilst avoiding "main-line" theory in the Sicilian.
In this comprehensive book Grandmaster Efstratios Grivas offers an introduction, statistical overview and extensive examination of the Grivas Sicilian, from move 5 through to the endgame. The four main chapters are devoted to Move-by-Move opening analysis, Typical Middlegame Strategy, Endgame Technique and Tactical Motifs.
Opening variations are named after ancient Greek gods in honour of the author's country of birth!
