I.M. David Miedema offers a repertoire for Black in the French Tarrasch System (1.e4,e6; 2.d4,d5; 3.Nd2). His main recommendation is for Black to play 3..c5; and after 4.exd5, to play 4..exd5; followed by 5..Nc6.
It is often believed that White has an advantage in the resulting isolated queen pawn positions, but the author's results improved when he started playing these positions with Black. He now recomends them as Black's best option against the Tarrasch.
In this book Miedema also examines White's alternatives to the main lines and Black's option of playing 5..Nf6; in place of 5..Nc6.
David Niedema is a Dutch International Master who has made the French Defence his main defence to 1.e4. He has gained considerable knowledge and experience of the opening.
