T G Whitworth (Ed)

This revised edition of a 1984 book contains 440 of Kubbel's studies including some of his less important compositions which were not available previously.

The book is based on Kubbel's own 1925 and 1938 collections but with more material included. Each study is diagrammed and is accompanied by the annotated solution.

Leonid Kubbel was a Russian composer of chess endgame studies and problems. He was born in Saint Petersburg in 1891, or 1892, and died in the city (then renamed Leningrad) in 1942, of starvation, during the siege of Leningrad.

He composed more than 1500 endgame studies and problems, many of which were awarded prizes for their beauty and original concepts. He is considered one of the greatest endgame composers and was a chemical engineer by profession.

Published 2004, softback, 221 pages.
