Alexander Beliavsky was one of the world's leading Grandmasters in the 1970s and 1980s. He won the World Junior Championship in 1973 and the USSR Championship four times (1974, 1980, 1987 and 1990).

In the 1982-84 World Chess Championship qualifying cycle, Beliavsky reached the Candidates matches, losing to eventual winner Garry Kasparov in the quarterfinals in 1983.

In this book Tibor Karolyi examines Beliavsky's best and most important games from the peak part of his career - the 1980s onwards.
