Delays occurred in the production of this book when, in 1995, Shirov lost his computer containing all his work! This has resulted in a better book since many of the original annotations have been revised or re-written completely. What we end up with is a magnificent collection of 82 of the Latvians best games - all deeply annotated - plus additional chapters on his favourite Botvinnik variation of the Semi-Slav and on some selected endings.
The complexity and originality of Shirovs play explains why he is regarded by many as the natural heir to Mikhail Tal. The games included here were played between 1983 and 1996, mostly against the worlds leading Grandmasters. A top class work!
