Q. How long will it take for my order to be despatched?
A. Your order will usually be despatched within 2 working days (Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays) of receipt. If any item is not in stock and is likely to be delayed more than 5 working days we will advise you and try to give a despatch date. Available items will be despatched first with any back-ordered items following when available. If you don't want to wait for back-ordered items you can cancel them at any time by emailing us.

Q. If my order is despatched in more than one shipment will it cost more for delivery?
A. No, the order total is that shown when you place the order, irrespective of whether we need to use more than one shipment.

Q.Can I use a different delivery address to my home address?
A. Yes, a separate delivery address can be chosen at the checkout. Please provide your home address as well to enable the processing of your card payment.

Q. Do I have to sign for receipt of my order? (UK only)
A. If you select delivery by Parcelforce you will need to be present to sign for the goods. If you select ordinary 1st or 2nd class post a signature is not required. Signature requirements outside the UK will depend on your postal provider.

Q. What are your shipping rates?
A. Shipping charges are calculated at the checkout, according to the weight of your ordered items and your delivery destination. This is the fairest way of ensuring accurate shipping rates for all customers, irrespective of location. See Shipping Info for more detailed information.

Q. What postcodes constitute the Scottish Highlands?
A. Postcodes IV, HS, KA27-28, KW, PA20-49, PA60-78, PH17-26, PH30-44, PH49-50, ZE.

Q. What is VAT?
A. Value Added Tax, or VAT, is a sales tax added to the price of goods sold within the U.K. Prices shown on our site include VAT. Since Brexit, goods which are sold to EU or other overseas countries are not subject to VAT. However, EU tax authorities in any EU country may charge VAT to EU citizens buying goods from the UK, before delivery.

Current U.K. VAT rates are:
Books & Magazines: 0% (zero)
All other items: 20%

Prices shown on our site include VAT at the applicable rate. Customers with delivery addresses outside the U.K. will have this tax deducted at the checkout stage, after confirming their (non U.K.)delivery address. This has no effect on the price of books or magazines (0% VAT rate) but makes other items cheaper.

Q. I didn't receive an email acknowledging my order, why not?
All orders received on-line are acknowledged by email when you click the "return to merchant site" button after making a credit/debit (Worldpay) payment, or automatically in the case of PayPal payments
If you do not receive an email please check the email address you supplied with your order. If it was mistyped then you would not receive the automatic confirmation email. Please email us and we will send a confirmation manually.

Q. What credit/debit cards do you accept?
A. Visa Credit, Visa Debit, Visa Electron, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, JCB & Union Pay. We also accept PayPal payments

Q. Is credit/debit card payment secure?
A. Credit and debit card payments are processed by Worldpay, one of the world's leading secure payment providers. Alternatively you may choose to pay using your PayPal account, or by debit/credit card through PayPal. If you choose to cancel an order or part-order after payment has been made, any required refund will be made using the same method as you used to make payment.

Q. Do you charge extra for accepting payment by credit or debit card or PayPal?
A. No.

Q. Do you accept purchase orders?
A. We accept purchase orders from schools and other educational establishments. You can email the order as a PDF or JPEG attachement to office@chessdirect.co.uk or fax your establishment purchase order form to us on 01709 890565. We will despatch your order with an invoice, payable in 30 days from invoice date.

Q. Where is Chess Direct Ltd. based?
A. Chess Direct Ltd. is a U.K. based company, registered in the U.K. (reg. no. 2615566) and has been trading for over 25 years.
