Tibor Karolyi & Nick Aplin

There is no doubt that the 12th World Champion Anatoly Karpov is one of the greatest masters of the endgame in the history of chess. For this book, editor Tibor Karolyi has assembled 105 of Karpov's best endgames, examined and re-worked all previous analysis and added his own and computer findings to produce an outstanding, practical manual on endgame technique as well as a fine tribute to Karpov's skill.

For each endgame, all preceding moves in the game are given but analytical comment is confined to the endgame phase. The book covers the years from 1961, when Karpov was a promising junior, to 1990, the year of his last World Championship clash with Kasparov, so showing Karpov's play at the peak of his abilities.

Author Tibor Karolyi is an International Master from Hungary who has been coach to both Judit Polgar and Peter Leko. Co-author Nick Aplin is an Associate Professor of Sport Studies at the National Institute of Education in Singapore.

Published 2007, softback, 358 pages.
