John Cox
Sample pages (pdf)This book provides a repertoire for Black in the Queen's Gambit Declined, based on the Tartakower Variation (1.d4,d5; 2.c4,e6; 3.Nc3,Nf6; 4.Nf3,Be7, 5.Bg5,h6; 6.Bh4,0-0, 7.e3,b6) and, as an alternative, the Lasker Defence (1.d4,d5; 2.c4,e6; 3.Nc3,Nf6; 4.Nf3,Be7, 5.Bg5,h6; 6.Bh4,0-0, 7.e3,Ne4). Cox also demonstrates how to play against White's other tries, including the The Catalan, Exchange Variation and Bf4 lines. Using 53 annotated key games he explains, in detail, the typical plans and tactics adopted by both sides, whilst also tackling the tricky subject of move-order possibilities.
He does not examine alternatives to 2.c4 for White as these are covered in his other book "Dealing with d4 Deviations". The Reti Opening (1.c4/2.Nf3) is also not included here.
John Cox is an International Master from England. His previous books have received great praise, establishing him as a writer with impressive credentials.
