A J Gillam (Ed)

The British Chess Association tournament at Bradford in August 1888 was the first major chess event held in England outside London.
It was won by Gunsberg ahead of Mackenzie, von Bardeleben, Mason, Burn, Weiss, Blackburne, Taubenhaus, Bird, Pollock, Thorold, Locock, Mortimer, Lee, Owen, Hall, Rumboll and Skipworth. The result was a great success for Gunsberg and added weight to his claim to a world championship match against Steinitz, which was played two years later.

Two books of selected games appeared immediately after the tournament, but this is the first attempt to collect all of the existing games. This book includes many contemporary newspaper reports; indices. 26 photos, 101 diagrams and all available games with contemporary notes where available. (148 games and part games in total)

Published 2012, softback, 196 pages.
