A J Gillam (Ed)

Abbazia (now Opatija) was a King's Gambit Accepted tournament, organised by Georg Marco in an attempt to counter the "modern" style of play with it's slow Queen's Gambits and Spanish Openings. All the games were required to begin with 1.e4, e5; 2.f4, exf4.

A complete tournament book was never published so the games for this book have been restricted to those which could be found in various contemporary chess publications. Many of the games have notes taken from publications of the period.

Rudolf Spielmann triumphed ahead of Oldrich Duras, Erich Cohn and Richard Reti. 12 players competed in a double-round format.

This book contains 77 (plus fragments) of the 121 games, 26 diagrams, contemporary articles and brief biographies.

Published 1994, softback, stapled, 44 pages.
