Alexey Seleznev

Lessons in the Endgame

This collection of 100 diagrammed studies by the remarkable Russian chess composer Alexey Seleznev (1888-1967) will not only wrap you in the amazing world of beautiful and memorable ideas, developed here to perfection. It is also an indispensable chess study aid - Seleznev's problems are closely integrated into practical play and most of them are self-contained lessons. The accuracy of these compositions is backed up by modern computer analysis.

Solutions to the studes, with commentary, appear at the end of the book.

Alexey Seleznev was one of several Russian players interned in the German city of Mannheim after the 1914 tournament there coincided with the outbreak of World War I. He returned, in 1924, to what was now the Soviet Union, but fled in 1942 to live in Germany, Belgium and, finally, France. As a consequence, most copies of the Russian edition of this book, originally published in 1940, were pulped by the Soviet authorities.

Edited and with a foreword by Oleg Pervakov, World Chess Composing Champion.

Published 2017, softback, 100 pages.
