This series aims to provide a White repertoire with 1.e4. In volume 1 Grandmaster Justin Tan offers ideas for White against five defences: Alekhine's Defence, The Nimzowitsch Defence, The Scandinavian, The Pirc and Modern Defences and The Philidor Defence.

Each chapter begins with an overview, highlighting the general concepts of the opening. The main analysis focuses on lines of play which combine objectivity with the practical consideration of finding the most difficult ideas for a human opponent to face. Model games for each system then provide a clear picture of the ideas in practice.

Justin Tan is a Grandmaster who has represented Australia in numerous international events. He is currently based in the UK and has been British under-21 champion and joint second at the British Championships. He has been a 1.e4 specialist throughout his playing career and is recognised for his deep opening preparation.

Published 2021, softback, 464 pages.
