Digital XL Game Timer

DGT XL Timer (Approx. dimensions 14 x 11 x 5cm)

What is new, compared to the DGT model FIDE?

1. The display size of the DGT XL has been increased with 50%. The digits are now 18 mm high, as requested by Kasparov and Kramnik for their world championship match in London.

2. The display layout has been changed. Additional information is shown.
a. the timing system used,
b. the period the game is in,
c. dots show which side is playing with the white pieces,
d. an icon shows whether the buzzer is active or not.

3. The DGT XL comes with a buzzer, that can be switched on to indicate the approach of the time limit.

4. Two additional buttons have been added to make the use easier.
a. A "minus 1" button, to speed up manual programming or time corrections
b. A "go back" button, to make the road to the right program easier.

5. The "Start-Stop" button has been placed exactly in the middle of the keyboard panel.

6. The battery holder has been integrated into the housing.

7. The number of batteries has been halved. Only two AA batteries are needed for the same performance.

8. The mechanism of the lever has been improved. Tests show a stable high quality after 1.000.000 lever movements.

9. The timing system "Upcount" has been added. This system is used in Scrabble® competitions, but can be used in other games also.

10. The DGT XL can store 5 user defined manual sets. The stored preferences can be easily loaded time and again.

11. The DGT XL allows the mixing of timing systems. A normal countdown in the first period can now be combined with a second period of "Fischer" or "Bronstein delay".

12. The DGT XL can communicate with the DGT electronic chess board and the PC. This is a two-way communication.

a. The timing data from the clock can be taken into the computer, e.g. for live presentation of games. Also the time on the clock can overrule the internal time in PC chess playing programs like Fritz, Junior, Hiarcs or Genius.

b. The PC program can send data to the DGT XL. The moves of (e.g.) Fritz can be shown on the XL display, thus creating the option to play against computer programs at large distances from the PC.

c. Over-the-board internet matches, like Paris - St. Petersburg, and games played in the DGT e-board communities, as the one ChessBase will introduce this fall, use these options to synchronise the clock times on both sides of the globe.
