Terms & Conditions

About Us Chess Direct Ltd. is a U.K. registered company trading from the U.K. We have been in business for over 16 years. We are dedicated to the continual improvement of both our service and this web site. If you have any suggestions or comments please email us at office@chessdirect.co.uk

The terms and conditions below apply to all orders placed with us via our web site. By placing an order it is deemed that you accept these terms and conditions.

Errors & omissions excepted.

Making A Purchase Just browse through our catalogue pages and click the "add to basket" button for any items that you wish to buy. After you have finished your selection, click on "Checkout" and you will be asked for the details that we need to be able to fulfill your order.

Please note that, as yet, our stock records are not linked to the web site. Most of the items listed on the web site are in stock those which are not in stock are on order from our suppliers and will be available in the near future. We try to remove items which are likely to be unavailable for a long time from the site until they come back into stock.

We accept credit & debit card payment. If you are shopping from outside the U.K. place your order and your credit card issuer will convert the transaction into your own currency at the exchange rate prevailing on that day. Please ask your card issuer if you want to know what that rate is.

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Switch/Solo/Maestro and Visa Electron. We do not charge for any item until it is ready to ship. Back-ordered items are not charged for until they are shipped. If you are not happy supplying your credit card details online you may send them separately via phone, fax, mail or over the Internet.

The checkout stage uses SSL (golden padlock) 128-bit encryption to ensure secure transmission of your personal data to our office.

Shipping And Handling You will have the option of specifying a method of shipping when you reach the checkout page. Shipping costs depend upon your location, the shipping method requested and the weight of your order. All orders are shipped from the U.K. All overseas orders are sent by airmail. There are no tracking numbers on overseas shipments but all goods are insured in transit and will be re-sent if they fail to arrive.

Please note: Next Day Delivery applies to working days (Mon-Fri) only and to U.K. mainland destinations only (Excluding Scottish Highlands & Northern Ireland). No deliveries are made on Saturday or Sunday. Orders must be received before 10am U.K. time to be despatched on the day of ordering.

Delivery Schedule Where goods are in stock we aim to despatch orders within 1 to 2 working days of receipt of your order and in any case within a maximum of 5 working days. If we are unable to supply all or part of your order within 5 working days we will notify you and give an estimated delivery date. (please see also the "Back Orders" section) Working day means Monday to Friday.

Delivery schedules quoted also apply from Monday to Friday only. e.g. Goods despatched by next day service on Friday will be delivered on Monday, not Saturday.

Estimated air mail delivery times for overseas orders from the day of despatch:

United States 7-14 Business Days

Western Europe 3-5 Business Days

Eastern Europe 5-7 Business Days

Rest of World 7-14 Business Days

We will use reasonable endeavours to deliver goods to customers by the estimated delivery date. The delivery date is not guaranteed nor is it of the essence of the contract. In no circumstances will the Chess Direct Ltd. be liable to the customer for any losses, damages or charges incurred by the customer due to the late delivery of the goods.

Back Orders Please note that, as yet, our stock records are not linked to the web site. Most of the items listed on the web site are in stock those which are not in stock are on order from our suppliers and will be available in the near future. We try to remove items which are likely to be unavailable for a long time from the site until they come back into stock.

If part of your order is not in stock those items immediately available will be despatched straight away and any unavailable items will be placed on back-order and supplied as soon as they become available. We will give an estimated shipping date for the back-ordered items. You may cancel your order for back-ordered items at any time before we supply. If you need to do this please email us or fax or write quoting your order number. (details given in "reaching us" section) If you do not wish your order to be part shipped as described above please send a separate email stating this at the time of ordering to sales@chessdirect.co.uk quoting your order number.

Pricing and Tax Charges All prices on the site are quoted in U.K. pounds sterling. They will be converted into your own currency at the prevaling exchange rate at the time of payment by your credit/debit card issuer. Prices are shown both exclusive and inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT). The VAT inclusive price is what customers with a delivery address inside the European Union will pay. Elsewhere in the world the VAT exclusive price applies. A VAT receipt will accompany your order.

If you are ordering from outside the UK please bear in mind that customs duty tax may be levied on your imported goods. Please check with your local customs office before ordering for tax rates and applicability as we cannot be held responsible for import charges levied by overseas governments.

Credit Card Security A secure connection using an SSL server and the https protocol (golden padlock) is used during the checkout stage. This is the internet standard for transmission of secure data, offering 128-bit encryption. It means that your personal data, including credit/debit card details are transmitted securely whenever you place an order.
Guarantee All goods are insured by us against loss or damage in transit to the customer. Any claim for damage in transit or for goods being defective must be made within 3 days of receipt of the goods. All goods remain the property of Chess Direct Ltd. until paid for in full.
