The terms and conditions below apply to all orders placed with us via our web site. By placing an order it is deemed that you accept these terms and conditions.
Errors & omissions excepted.
Please note that, as yet, our stock records are not linked to the web site. Most of the items listed on the web site are in stock those which are not in stock are on order from our suppliers and will be available in the near future. We try to remove items which are likely to be unavailable for a long time from the site until they come back into stock.
We accept credit & debit card payment. If you are shopping from outside the U.K. place your order and your credit card issuer will convert the transaction into your own currency at the exchange rate prevailing on that day. Please ask your card issuer if you want to know what that rate is.
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Switch/Solo/Maestro and Visa Electron. We do not charge for any item until it is ready to ship. Back-ordered items are not charged for until they are shipped. If you are not happy supplying your credit card details online you may send them separately via phone, fax, mail or over the Internet.
The checkout stage uses SSL (golden padlock) 128-bit encryption to ensure secure transmission of your personal data to our office.
Please note: Next Day Delivery applies to working days (Mon-Fri) only and to U.K. mainland destinations only (Excluding Scottish Highlands & Northern Ireland). No deliveries are made on Saturday or Sunday. Orders must be received before 10am U.K. time to be despatched on the day of ordering.
Delivery schedules quoted also apply from Monday to Friday only. e.g. Goods despatched by next day service on Friday will be delivered on Monday, not Saturday.
Estimated air mail delivery times for overseas orders from the day of despatch:
United States 7-14 Business Days
Western Europe 3-5 Business Days
Eastern Europe 5-7 Business Days
Rest of World 7-14 Business Days
We will use reasonable endeavours to deliver goods to customers by the estimated delivery date. The delivery date is not guaranteed nor is it of the essence of the contract. In no circumstances will the Chess Direct Ltd. be liable to the customer for any losses, damages or charges incurred by the customer due to the late delivery of the goods.
If part of your order is not in stock those items immediately available will be despatched straight away and any unavailable items will be placed on back-order and supplied as soon as they become available. We will give an estimated shipping date for the back-ordered items. You may cancel your order for back-ordered items at any time before we supply. If you need to do this please email us or fax or write quoting your order number. (details given in "reaching us" section) If you do not wish your order to be part shipped as described above please send a separate email stating this at the time of ordering to sales@chessdirect.co.uk quoting your order number.
If you are ordering from outside the UK please bear in mind that customs duty tax may be levied on your imported goods. Please check with your local customs office before ordering for tax rates and applicability as we cannot be held responsible for import charges levied by overseas governments.

2) Goods not damaged or faulty. You have seven working days following receipt of your order during which you may return goods. Any such returned goods must be in perfect condition (including any packaging, instruction manuals etc.). We will levy a 15% re-stocking fee (minimum £5.00) for returns which do not reach us in perfect condition. The cost of return carriage and insurance must be met by the customer although we can help in the arrangement of this. This policy does not apply to sealed software and videos (see below). Please contact us in advance for returns address and advice on best procedure.
EXCEPTION: SOFTWARE & VIDEOS By law sealed software products and videos/DVDs may not be returned once they have been opened by the customer except where the product is faulty. This is to help prevent piracy. It is your responsibility to make sure that your operating equipment is compatible with the relevant software or video/DVD before purchasing and that software is functionally adequate for your needs. This does not affect your rights in law.
