John Cox
In this repertoire book for Black candidate I.M. John Cox offers suggestions to combat d4 systems such as the Colle, Trompovsky, Torre, London System and Blackmar Diemer Gambit. These openings often prove difficult to meet for Black since they are very solid and offer few winning chances. However the reason that they are not so popular at higher levels of chess is that they just aren't that good and Cox demonstrates why! He offers two alternatives for Black in more frequently used openings such as the Colle, London, BDG and Torre. Against the Trompovsky, Pseudo Trompovsky and Veresov he recommends one defence which he thinks stands out clearly as best. With a combination of text and analysis Cox shows how to defuse these annnoying and often seen White openings. Ten chapters in all, including Anti-Benoni Lines and Rare Lines, with index of variations.

Christoph Scheerer
The Blackmar-Diemer Gambit (1.d4,d5; 2.e4, dxe4; 3.Nc3 or 1.d4,Nf6; 2.Nc3,d5; 3.e4) is a dangerous attacking opening which has amassed a cult following amongst club players and a loyal band of supporters like no other in chess. White sacrifices a pawn in return for a strong initiative which tests Black's defensive capabilities to the limit. The BDG's objective soundness is open to question, but there is no doubting it's success and popularity over the board, where pressure and a ticking clock make attacking much easier than defending!
In this book, International Master Christoph Scheerer offers a detailed analysis of the gambit. In thirteen chapters he covers all Black's major defences and some less common continuations, outlining the most promising lines for White and the most resilient defences for Black. He highlights the many tricks and traps awaiting the unsuspecting player.
The book deals only with the gambit accepted and not attempted transpositions into other openings (e.g. the French Defence after 1.d4,d5; 2.e4,e6)
Christoph Scheerer is an International Master from Germany. He has a string of tournament successes to his name, including winning the 2001 Kiel Open, and has been a regular competitor in the exceptionally strong German Bundesliga. He is also an experienced coach, having taught at the Internet Chess Club for many years.

Cyrus Lakdawala
The London System (1.d4,d5; 2.Bf4) is a popular opening, especially at club level. White's plan of development is very easy to learn and play, and it can be employed against virtually any defensive set-up. What's more, depending on mood, style or opponent, White can choose either to attack directly or to instigate a more positional strategy. Many Black players admit they hate facing the London System, which is surely a good reason to play it!
In this book Cyrus Lakdawala presents a reliable repertoire for White with the London System against all Black's major defensive options. Using 92 illustrative games and drawing upon his vast experience in the opening, Lakdawala reveals ideas for White against all of Black's main defences, including 1..d5; the Dutch, Grunfeld, King's Indian and Queen's Indian Defences. He explains the typical plans and tactics for both sides and includes summaries with key points to remember. This book provides everything a player of the White pieces needs to know to play the London System with confidence.
Cyrus Lakdawala is an International Master and former American Open Champion. He has been teaching chess for 30 years.

Sverre Johnsen & Vlatko Kovacevic
The London System is popular with club and tournament players as it offers soundness with an attacking edge based on White's central control and c3-d4-e3 pawn wedge. Here, the authors recommend the move order 1.d4,d5; 2.Bf4 or 1.d4,Nf6; 2.Bf4 reaching a characteristic "London" position as soon as possible. This book is in two parts: an Illustrative Games section which shows White's plan in action against a variety of Black defences and an Analytical Section which presents the theory of the London System after both 1. ..d5; and 1. ..Nf6; in fourteen chapters. The authors explain White's typical plans in detail and show how to use move-order subtleties to limit Black's choices in what is a well researched repertoire book. Vlatko Kovacevic is a Croatian Grandmaster whilst Sverre Johnsen is a Norwegian chess researcher.

Valerij Bronznik
The Colle-Koltanowski system arises after the moves 1.d4,d5; 2.Nf3,Nf6; 3.e3,e6; 4.Bd3,c5; 5.c3 and is the starting point for this book. Ukranian IM Valerij Bronznik offers a thorough and objective coverage via 43 extensively annotated games which illustrate many of the strategies available to both sides in the Colle. The largest chapters are devoted to Black's main alternatives ..Nbd7 and ..Nc6 with additional material on lines where Black plays an early ..b6 or ..c4. Finally Bronznik offers his own opinions on what to do if Black avoids the Colle setup. Throughout the book there is advice on different pawn structures which may arise from the Colle and how to play them and examination of the classic Colle bishop sacrifice Bxh7. The author believes that his research into the opening has shown that, in many lines, the best moves remain untried and that there is scope for considerable creativity in this popular system.

David Rudel
In The Moment of Zuke: Critical Positions and Pivotal Decisions for Colle System Players, David Rudel wrote that the main line of the c3-Colle was looking quite grim for White. He proposed that Colle-Koltanowski players should adopt a new idea, meeting 1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.e3 e6 4.Bd3 c5 5.c3 Nc6 6.Nbd2 Bd6 7.O-O O-O with 8.dxc5 Bxc5 9.b4!, a variation he dubbed the Koltanowski-Phoenix Attack.
Rudel promised to write a treatise on this new idea, and—two years later—he has delivered. Koltanowski Phoenix Attack: The future of the c3-Colle is a 250+ page project giving extensive coverage of all critical defenses. Even though the book is long, it is organized in such a way that a player can begin playing the Koltanowski-Phoenix almost immediately. Rudel first gives a “Simple mini-Repertoire” that can be learned in hours, and then he provides more complicated, alternate lines that can be added as the player becomes more experienced with the opening.
David Rudel is an authority on the Colle System, Koltanowski-Phoenix Attack: The Future of the c3-Colle being his third book intended for Colle System players.

Richard Palliser
The Colle is a solid opening system which offers White a sound platform from the opening upon which to base a middlegame attack. In this book I.M. Richard Palliser explains the basic strategies fo the Colle and how White should play against Black's major defensive options. The book concentrates exclusively on the Colle with 5.c3 and not the Colle-Zukertort system with 5.b3. With 31 annotated games and an abundance of notes, hints and warnings, every aspect of Colle strategy is covered. Part one examines the Colle main lines where Black adopts a ..d5; and ..Nf6; set-up whilst part two looks at Anti-Colle ideas and Black's second and thirsd move alternatives. Richard Palliser is an International Master and a chess author highly respected for his thoroughness and objectivity.

Aaron Summerscale & Sverre Johnsen
This is an updated edition of the very popular White repertoire book based on 1.d4 and including the Barry Attack, the 150 Attack and the Colle-Zukertort System as well as Anti-Dutch and Anti-Benoni systems. The brutal Barry Attack is used to combat King’s Indian setups, The 150 Attack gives Pirc/Modern exponents a hard time and the Colle-Zukertort System is played against 1...d5. Also includes an antidote to the Queen's Indian Defence. Each attacking system is explained with the aid of 68 annotated example games. The selected lines of play combine to form a well-thought-out repertoire for White.
For this expanded edition Sverre Johnsen has updated some analysis in light of recent developments but has left the strategic explanations unchanged and stuck to the spirit of the original work as far as possible.

Grigory Bogdanovich
Foreword by Artur Yusupov
Back to the future! Far from a dusty relic once played by great masters such as Rubinstein, Pillsbury, and Bogolyubov, the Zukertort System now enjoys new life. Modern world-class players such as Artur Yusupov, Teimour Radjabov, and Lázaro Bruzón have come to appreciate the Zukertort's rich potential and play it with confidence against strong opposition. The Zukertort System is a fully viable, dynamic 21st-century opening.
Often considered a variation of the better-known Colle System, the Zukertort stands proudly on its own, offering White chances to launch a sharp kingside attack or to work up a slow squeeze on the queenside. In this monograph by Zukertort practitioner IM Grigory Bogdanovich, players of the white pieces will discover how to build on the assets of their position, while players of Black will learn how to defend their territory. All along, the reader is treated to a positional manual on fundamental themes such as hanging pawns, the isolated queen's pawn, and sacrifices to open lines for attack. The book includes hundreds of complete and part games, illustrating key tactical and positional ideas in the Zukertort System and there is an Index of Tactical Methods and Strategic Themes.
Zukertort System expert Grigory Bogdanovich is an International Master and professional chess coach from Russia, based in Germany. He is the author of Play 2..Nf6! in the Sicilian (2009)
Published 2011, softback, 340 pages.
