Julen Arizmendi & Javier Moreno
This new guide to the most popular and sharpest Sicilian system covers it's subject by means of 52 complete, annotated games with plenty of text to explain strategies and tactics. All major systems are covered including 6.Be2, 6.Bg5, 6.Be3, 6.f4, 6.g3, 6.Bc4 and 6.a4 and the authors present a flexible repertoire for Black including 7..Qc7 against Bg5 lines and 6..e5 against 6.Be3. The Najdorf's landscape changes rapidly, and this presents its devotees with a complex task: they must not only keep up-to-date with sharp theoretical lines, but must also have a firm grasp of the strategies that underpin the main systems, both old and new. This book lends a helping hand to those who play the Najdorf or wish to take up this complex opening. Two Najdorf experts from Spain present a flexible repertoire for Black, including a wealth of original analysis of the critical variations. They also explain the key ideas behind the Najdorf, focusing on those plans that are most relevant to modern practice. Julen Arizmendi is a Spanish I.M. and Javier Moreno is a Spanish G.M.

James Rizzitano
The Najdorf Sicilian (1.e4,c5; 2.Nf3,d6; 3.d4,cxd4; 4.Nxd4,Nf6; 5.Nc3;a6;) has a unique place amongst chess openings, having been a favourite of World Champions Bobby Fischer and Garry Kasparov and playing a vital role in the repertoires of current top players such as Viswanathan Anand and Veselin Topalov.
In this book International Master James Rizzitano presents a repertoire for Black against all White's options including the Fischer Attack (6.Bc4), 6.Bg5, 6.f4, the English Attack (6.Be3), the Classical System, the Fianchetto Variation and all White's move 6 alternatives. He uses complete, annotated games for his coverage so the reader can get an idea of the middlegame play which arises from the Najdorf. In some lines, such as 6.Bg5, he offers several alternative defences for Black so readers with different styles can find something suitable for themselves.
The opening chapter examines some positional and tactical themes in the Sicilian Najdorf.
Author James Rizzitano is a strong International Master who dominated chess in the New England region during a 14-year period from 1976 to 1989 - he won 157 out of 336 events in which he competed. His career highlights include victories over Lev Alburt, Joel Benjamin, Pal Benko, Larry Christiansen, Maxim Dlugy, I.Gurevich, and Patrick Wolff. In recent years Rizzitano has made a return to competitive chess and written several successful books on openings.

Richard Palliser
IM Richard Palliser offers a repertoire for Black in the Sicilian Najdorf, one of the sharpest defences around, and a favourite of both Fischer and Kasparov. In keeping with the excellent "Starting Out" series the book contains lots of advice, hints, tricks & traps and the author takes care throughout to explain the reasoning behind the lines of play he recommends and both sides' strategies. The material is presented via the medium of 59 annotated games with coverage of all White's major 6th move options: 6.Be2, The English Attack, 6.Bg5, 6.Bc4, 6.f4 and 6.g3. As usual the content is designed for club and tournament players who would like to take up a new opening. It includes a nice balance of explanation and theory.

Milos Pavlovic
Part of a new series examining the cutting edge of opening theory. The idea is to identify the most important theoretical battlegrounds of the moment and then analyse as deeply as possible in search of improvements. Thus the reader will be ahead of the current state-of-the-art, rather than lagging behind trying to memorize old games.
The Cutting Edge 2 looks at the extremely sharp Sicilian Najdorf English Attack - 6.Be3. Pavlovic's in-depth coverage is based on the latest Grandmaster games and his own original analysis. He includes both of Black's main responses 6..e6; and 6..e5 including some of the wildest and most heavily analysed variations (after 6..e6) such as the Topalov Variation, Perenyi Attack and the main lines. 6..e5 can lead to more positional play or, as in the Vallejo Pons Variation, a razor sharp tactical battle.
A later book will consider the Sicilian Najdorf with 6.Bg5.
Milos Pavlovic is a highly experienced Serbian grandmaster and former Yugoslav Champion, whose analysis is regularly featured in New in Chess and Chess Informant.
Published 2011, softback, 216 pages.

Tapani Sammalvuo
A comprehensive analysis of lines with Be3 and f3 against the Najdorf (6..e5) and Scheveningen (6..e6) systems of the Sicilian. The English Attack has become the new main-line for White, being more aggressive than 6.Be2 and more flexible than 6.Bc4 or 6.Bg5. The idea of a kingside pawn storm makes strategic sense and allows White to keep a solid central position whilst attacking on the flank. Here Finnish I.M. Tapani Sammalvuo devotes thirteen chapters to the English Attack with both text explanation and lines of analysis. As well as all the main lines he includes a chapter on the new 6.f3 move order and an attacking guide which explains some some of the main tactical ideas available to both sides. This detailed work is destined to be the main reference on the English Attack for some years to come.

Alexander Khalifman
This volume is devoted mostly to the English Attack in the Najdorf system, that is the variation beginning with 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 a6 6.Be3 e6 7.f3. White's plan is simple and clear in the majority of cases: Qd2, g4, castling long and then a pawn-offensive on the kingside.
The Najdorf system has become the most popular in the Sicilian Defence long, long ago. Robert Fischer and Garry Kasparov were understandably its most famous exponents. Still, it looks like it will remain tremendously fashionable in the future as well. White began to play the English Attack (that is the plan with Be3/f3/Qd2) regularly during the middle of the 1980s, while prior to that, the main theoretical discussions concerned the lines with 6.Bg5 and 6.Bc4.
Naturally, the evaluations in this system have been constantly changing, just like in every other sharp and fashionable variation, but this exact plan has been White's main weapon against the Najdorf system for many years. It is also worth mentioning that contrary to some other opening variations, which are popular only at the top-level, or only among amateurs, the English Attack is top-fashion at all levels.
Author GM Alexander Khalifman was the FIDE World Champion from 1999-2000 and currently runs a chess academy in St Petersburg.
Published 2010, softback, 380 pages.

John Emms
The Najdorf Sicilian is one of the most dynamic and popular openings that Black can play and is a firm favourite amongst the world’s elite players, including world number one Garry Kasparov. From very early on, Black unbalances the game to a reach a position in which one can play for the win without exceptional risk.
The soundness of the Najdorf has never been questioned, but some players can be put off by the ever-spiralling amount of theory amassed on this great opening. In Play the Najdorf: Scheveningen Style, however, Grandmaster John Emms condenses this mountain to produce a workable black repertoire against all of White’s possible options. He does this by recommending only lines where Black plays e7-e6 and not those with an e7-e5 pawn formation. Emms analysis is in ten chapters depending on White's 6th move choice. Most attention goes to 6.Bc4, 6.Be3, 6.Be2, 6.Bg5, 6.f4 and 6.g3 but other possibilities are also examined. This is a black repertoire with alternatives given where the author considers current theory to be unstable and a back-up option may be required.
Published 2003, softback, 192 pages.
