Jesus de la Villa
This book offers a repertoire for White against the Sicilian Defence with 1.e4,c5; 2.Nf3, and 3.d4. The author recommends meeting main line Sicilians (e.g.Najdorf, Scheveningen, Dragon etc) with main line attacks as these are most likely to offer an advantage. Secondary defences, usually your opponent's pet system, are met with secondary attacks, so the element of surprise remains on your side and unsound variations are met with the refutation!
Grandmaster and twice Spanish Champion Jesus de la Villa uses a combination of analysis, explanation, complete games and chapter summaries to provide a comprehensive and well laid out repertoire for White against one of the most popular Black defences. Each variation is clearly organized with its history, ideas, statistics, examples of tactics and strategies, and instructive games.

Lubomir Ftacnik
Grandmaster Repertoire is a series of high quality chess books based on the main lines of openings, written by strong Grandmasters. The aim is to provide the reader with a complete repertoire at a level good enough for elite tournaments, and certainly also for the club championship. Grandmaster Repertoire provides a repertoire to last a lifetime.
Lubomir Ftacnik is a renowned opening analyst with great experience and expertise in the Sicilian Defense. In this book he reveals his secrets to provide a complete repertoire for Black against 1.e4 with 1...c5. The meat of the repertoire is the Sicilian Najdorf - the perennial favourite of those who want to attack with Black. It is no coincidence that Fischer, Kasparov and Anand have all relied on the Najdorf.
The author shows how to handle the Black side against White's main attacking attempts such as 6.f4, 6.Be2, 6.Bc4, 6.Be3, and 6.Bg5. Naturally, White's less critical tries are also covered, such as 2.c3, 2.Nf3 d6 3.Bb5+, and the Closed Sicilian.
Lubomir Ftacnik is a Grandmaster from Slovakia. Despite his numerous international tournament victories, from European Junior Champion in 1977 to winning the World Open in 2008, he is most famous as an opening analyst.
Published 2010, hardback, 427 pages.

Yuri Yakovich
Powerful Charges & Typical Tactics
Against most Sicilian variations, White's sharpest and often best weapon is queenside castling, a strategy that frequently leads to spectacular fireworks. Regrettably, these powerful charges have never been properly categorized. Until this book.
In Sicilian Attacks, Grandmaster Yuri Yakovich, who has more than thirty years of experience with complex Sicilian systems, analyses the Najdorf, the Scheveningen, the Dragon, the Taimanov and the Richter-Rauzer Variations.
He teaches how their pawn structures dictate typical methods of attack for White, but he also gives the best defending techniques for Black.
This book provides cutting-edge analysis full of original ideas, but also contains useful verbal guidelines to help you to recognize typical Sicilian plans and counterplans. An abundance of highly instructive games illustrate the various strategic and tactical themes. At the end of each chapter you will find practical conclusions.
Yuri Yakovich is a highly esteemed chess trainer and a wellknown grandmaster from Samara, Russia, who has won a number of strong tournaments such as San Antonio 1999. Yakovich has written two opening books: "The Complete Sveshnikov Sicilian" and "Play the 4 f3 Nimzo-Indian".

Timothy Taylor
Former US Open Champion Timothy Taylor presents an attacking repertoire for White against the most popular opening in chess - the Sicilian Defence. His repertoire is based on the Open Sicilian, (1.e4,c5; 2.Nf3,d6/Nc6; 3.d4) and in particular on the repertoire of former World Champion Anatoly Karpov. Karpov's emphasis was always on establishing a lasting positional advantage for White rather than following 30 moves of razor-sharp theory and this suits the club and tournament player with limited time for memorising complicated lines of play.
The seven chapters deal with the Classical Sicilian, Najdorf Variation, Dragon Variation, Scheveningen Variation Taimanov/Kan Systems, the Sveshnikov Variation and finally, other second moves for Black.
The repertoire is illustrated using 70 annotated key games with commentary and explanation throughout.
International Master Timothy Taylor is an experienced tournament player who has enjoyed several notable successes. He is an accomplished chess writer who is renowned for his entertaining and thought-provoking style.
Published 2012, softback, 287 pages.

Nigel Davies
Grandmaster Nigel Davies offers a repertoire for White against all the major Sicilian systems. Whereas fellow GM John Nunn in his "Beating the Sicilian" came up with very diverse and sharp lines of play, Davies recommends systems where White first plays 3.d4 and 4.Nxd4 and then fianchettos his king's bishop thus achieving a consistent set-up with which players of the white pieces will become quickly familiar. As this system is not "cutting-edge" theory it will not date quickly and there is less to remember for the working club player. Coverage is by means of 52 complete, annotated games with chapters on the Najdorf, Classical, Scheveningen, Paulsen/Taimanov, Kan, Sveshnikov, Lowenthal/Kalashnikov and Dragon variations. The final chapter examines more obscure lines of the Sicilian such as the Four Knights and Nimzovich systems.

Victor Bologan
The Rossolimo Variation (1.e4,c5; 2.Nf3,Nc6; 3.Bb5) is one of the most popular and successful Anti-Sicilian weapon around today. It is a great way for White to avoid super sharp Open Sicilians like the Sveshnikov and Accelerated Dragon and is being used by top players like Ivanchuk, Adams, Svidler and Grischuk, as well as by thousands of amateurs all over the world.
In the fifteen chapters of this book Moldovan Grandmaster Victor Bologan examines the type of positions which can arise from the Sicilian Rossolimo and the plans associated with them. He considers all Black's defences and highlights the most dangerous options for White in each case.
If you play the Rossolimo you do not need to keep up-to-date with the dazzling theoretical developments in the Open Sicilian and you will get a position in which playing is more important than remembering specific variations.
Victor Bologan is one of the world's strongest Grandmasters and author of several successful chess books.
Published 2011, softback, 238 pages.

Grigory Bogdanovich
This system (1.e4,c5; 2.Nf3,Nf6;) was first played by Nimzowitsch in 1911but remains obscure to this day with few devotees and very little literature on the subject. International Master Grigory Bogdanovich has been playing the 2..Nf6 Sicilian for 30 years and has distilled his experience of the opening into this manual.
Using a combination of analysis, explanation and key games he offers an objective evaluation of the 2..Nf6 Sicilian. Part one of his book considers lines where White does not play 3.e5. Part two examines the tricky 3.e5, Nd5; 4.d4 system as well as Larsen's 3.e5,Nd5; 4.Nc3, e6; defence. Part three looks at the key line 3.e5,Nd5; 4.Nc3,Nxc3; whilst the concluding chapters explain how to link the opening to the middlegame and how to handle the typical pawn structures. A chapter of annotated reference games ends the book.
