Yelena Dembo and Richard Palliser
The Scotch Game (1.e4,e5; 2.Nf3,Nc6; 3.d4,exd4; 4.Nxd4) takes it's name from an 1824 correspondence match between Edinburgh and London and was popular in the 19th century as it leads to an open position, allowing for tactical piece play. It lost popularity during the 20th century as Grandmasters preferred the more subtle Spanish Game, but was revitalised by Garry Kasparov in the 1990s, who discovered many new ideas in the opening, and is used today by Magnus Carlsen, Alexander Morozevich and Sergei Rublevsky.
In this book, Yelena Dembo and Richard Palliser take an in-depth look at the modern-day Scotch Game, with analysis of Black's major 4th move alternatives 4..Nf6; and 4..Bc5; There is a chapter on Tony Miles favourite 4..Bb4; as well as a final chapters examining 4..Nge7; 4..Qh4; and 4..g6.
Drawing upon their own considerable experience in this opening, Palliser and Dembo provide thorough coverage of both the critical main lines and the tricky sidelines, outlining the key tactical and positional ideas for White and Black.
Yelena Dembo is an International Master from Greece with numerous tournament successes to her name, including the bronze medal at the 2005 European Women's Championship. Richard Palliser is an International Master with numerous tournament successes to his name, and in 2006 he became Joint British Rapidplay Champion. He has already established a reputation as a skilled and thorough chess writer.

Jan Pinski
The Four Knights (1.e4,e5; 2.Nf3,Nc6; 3.Nc3,Nf6) has the distinction of being one of the oldest openings in the history of chess. Despite its deceptively peaceful appearance, the Four Knights can lead to wild gambit play as well as calmer positional waters, while adherents include the renowned tactician from Latvia, Alexei Shirov. In this revolutionary book, International Master Jan Pinski delves into the secrets of the Four Knights for the first time, studying the tactical and strategic ideas for both white and black players. Pinski covers both the fashionable main lines and the tricky sidelines, by means of 99 complete, annotated games, bringing the reader right up to date with the expanding theory. In Part One: The Spanish Four Knights (4.Bb5) he analyses 4..Bb4; 4..Nd4; and 4..sidelines. Part Two is The Scotch Four Knights (4.d4,exd4; 5.Nxd4) and Part Three: Other Systems includes the wild Belgrade Gambit, the Glek System (4.g3) and other unusual moves such as 4.a3. Jan Pinski is a Polish I.M.

Andrey Obodchuk
The Four Knights Game is one of the oldest chess openings and quite popular with club players. In recent years it has been injected with numerous fresh ideas and has shaken off the reputation of being a peaceful choice.
This book recommends the Spanish Four Knights Game (1.e4,e5; 2.Nf3,Nc6; 3.Nc3,Nc6; 4.Bb5) as a way for White to avoid meeting the Petroff Defence and Ruy Lopez: Berlin Defence, both of which are regarded as solid drawing lines for Black at present.
In seven chapters the author covers the Three Knights Game (where Black avoids 3..Nc6;) the Symmetrical Four Knights (4..Bb4;) the Metger System, the Rubinstein System and the super-sharp Belgrade Gambit; presenting some entertaining and previously unpublished ideas for both sides.
Using 64 complete and extensively annotated games Andrey Obodchuk covers a range positional themes as well as amazing, sharp adventures, and creates an easy-to-handle toolbox for amateur chess players of intermediate level.
Russian Andrey Obodchuk is an International Chess Master from Khany-Mansiysk, Russia.
Published 2011, softback, 238 pages.

John Emms
Grandmaster and leading chess author John Emms presents a complete repertoire for White in the Italian Game with 46 complete annotated games in six chapters illustrating the main ideas for both sides. He recommends lines with an early d3 for white and his main line runs 1.e4,e5; 2.Nf3,Nc6; 3.Bc4,Bc5; 4.c3,Nf6; 5.d3. White defers the pawn advance to d4 until he has more pieces developed or leaves the pawn on d3 and presses Black on his flanks with piece and pawn play. The lines he advocates are built upon a sound yet aggressive system of development which can be deployed against virtually every Black defence. The final chapter is devoted to the Bishop's Opening (1.e4,e5; 2.Bc4) which can be used as a way of transposing into the Italian Game whilst avoiding the Petroff Defence. Independent lines of play as well as transpositions are examined in detail by Emms.
John Emms is one of the UK's leading Grandmasters and has captained the English Team at two Chess Olympiads.
Published 2010, softback, 223 pages.

Jan Pinski
Analysis in nine chapters of this sharp defence to the Italian Game. After 1.e4,e5; 2.Nf3,Nc6; 3.Bc4,Nf6; the two most important continuations are 4.Ng5, and 4.d4, and the majority of this book is devoted to them. The final chapter examines the more cautious 4.d3. Coverage is based upon 66 complete, annotated games with theoretical summaries at the end of each chapter offering guidance on the best lines for either side. After 4.Ng5, the authors examine the Fritz and Ulvestad variations as well as the main lines with 5..Na5; and the super tactical Traxler Gambit 4..Bc5. After 4.d4,exd4; they analyse both 5.e5, and 5.0-0 looking at all Black's possible defensive attempts and finding that some neglected lines are much better than their reputation. The Two Knights is a very sharp, complicated defence in which both players need to know what they are doing immediately after 3..Nf6. Author Jan Pinski is a Polish International Master and author of other successful chess books.
