Viktor Bologan
A Complete Repertoire for White
The Catalan is one of the most solid openings for White. It forms part of the large and strong fianchetto family in which White builds his strategy mainly around the bishop on g2. The current DVD covers all of Black’s replies to the Catalan, some of which can even transpose to other openings such as the Tarrasch System and the Queen's Indian. The author's idea is, as it was in previous DVDs he has published in this area, to help White against all classical setups for Black. Though the DVD is aimed at players of the White pieces, it still might be useful for those who have Black so that they will better understand the coming threats. It would make little sense to mention all the strong players who include the Catalan in their repertoire. Suffice it to say that the Catalan rules!
Viktor Bologan is a pupil of the top Moldovan trainer Vecheslav Chebanenko. For many years Bologan has been the number 1 in Moldova and has represented his country in nine chess Olympiads. His greatest successes were in 2003, when he first of all won the Aeroflot Open and then the famous Dortmund Tournament, ahead of Kramnik and Anand. The Moldovan has extensive experience as a trainer and has also published his first books.
System requirements: Pentium-Processor at 300 Mhz or higher, 64 MB RAM, Windows 7/XP/Vista, DVD drive, mouse, soundcard.
Video running time: 5 hours 29 minutes. Published 2011.

Mihail Marin
The Catalan is an opening in which Black may well be able to obtain easy equality, but in which he frequently draws the short straw in the ensuing positional battle. The reason for this is that the player of the white pieces has usually assimilated much better the laws governing this opening and the plans to be adopted.
With great precision and clarity, GM Marin has examined the individual variations. Once again, as was the case with the author’s first CD "English 1.c4 e5", one comes across a large number of indications of possible transpositions and related variations, sometimes from quite different openings. In this fashion, the learner obtains insights into a genuine grandmaster’s opening.
Features:
* suitable for advanced players
* 62 texts and 500 annotated model games
* database with over 27,000 games
* training database
* an opening tree including all the games
* includes ChessBase-Reader
About the author:
Several times the Romanian Champion, Mihail Marin successfully managed in 2001 to leap above the Elo rating barrier of 2600. In 2003 he published the CDRom "English 1.c4 e5".

Boris Shipkov
The Bogo-Indian (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 Bb4+) stands out for two reasons: the concept behind the opening is simple and therefore easy to learn; and the Bogo-Indian has the reputation of being a reliable drawing weapon (statistically backed up by a high number of draws with it). This makes it an excellent second choice opening and it is on occasion used as such even by many world class players.
Schipkov explains in 21 texts the ideas behind the Bogo-Indian Defence and provides links to the most important model games. The author has annotated some 400 of these exclusively for this CD. In addition it contains a training database with 20 games in it, which contain more than 250 training questions. The CD is rounded off with an opening tree of all the 17,500 games.
Russian chess theorist Boris Schipkov, born in 1962, lives in Novosibirsk and has already published a number of books and articles, including the CDs Queen’s Gambit Accepted, Dutch Defence A90-A99, Dutch Defence A86-A89, Dutch Defence A80-A85 and King’s Indian Defence, Saemisch System.

Dmitri Oleinkov
With his previous publications (Budapest Gambit, Bird's Opening, Colle System) the author has already demonstrated that he is particularly interested in passing on ideas, typical structures and plans. His new work is no exception. But can that work with such an enormous opening as the Queen's Indian? This CD includes:
A database which provides an overview and contains 16 texts and 368 carefully chosen sample games, over 100 of which he has annotated himself
A chapter which explains the basic strategy
2 texts (with appropriate introduction) of 12 brilliant games by Black and 12 by White
A chapter on typical tactics including opening traps
2 chapters on "typical pawn structures" and on "piece behaviour"
A further database "Strategy" with 33 game extracts and 54 training questions
An extra database "Tactics and traps" with 33 game extracts and 55 training questions
Classic Queen's Indian games with lots of explanations
Theory in the usual sense, i.e. variations and sub-variations, are kept to a minimum
The work is supplied with a large database of over 78,000 games.
Author Dmitri Oleinikov lives in Moscow and is a journalist. He is a FIDEtrainer and worked in 2004-2006 as a trainer in the Asian Chess Academy (Singapore).

Alexei Shirov
With this DVD on the Nimzo-Indian Defence (including the Catalan and the Queen's Indian) Alexei Shirov continues the successful series about his best games. As in the preceding DVDs the Latvian super grandmaster offers analysis of a high quality and exciting insights into his games in his own pleasant and modest style. The DVD concentrates on the Classical Nimzo-Indian with 4.Qc2. But when playing against the very solid Nimzo-Indian (which the author faced most often as White) it is important to be able to vary your opening lines and so Shirov himself often switches to 3.Nf3, leading to games with 3..b6 (Queen's Indian) or 3..d5; 4.g3 (Catalan). Amongst the opponents in the games he presents are Topalov and Leko. Video running time: over 4 hours.
Alexei Shirov was born in Riga just like world champion Mikhail Tal and his playing style is reminiscent of the young Tal. In the beginning of the 90s, a comet-like rise brought the young Latvian to the top within a short time. Aged only 22 he already had an Elo rating of nearly 2750 and belonged to the chess elite. Since then Shirov has been one of the best players in the world, delighting all chess fans with original and amazing ideas on the board.

Knut Neven
The Nimzo-Indian is not only one of the most solid openings against 1.d4, but it also suits the player with Black who is aiming for the full point. In many treatments of the opening, White runs slight risks - doubled pawns and an isolated queen pawn are typical. At the peak of world chess, there is thus a clear preference for the Classical System 4.Qc2; in which White usually retains the bishop pair and the pawn structure remains intact; however on some occasions it is necessary to suffer being behind in development. Author, Knut Neven, has produced an easily comprehensible database with 24 texts and 478 selected and mainly annotated games. After an introduction and a history of the system and opening, there comes a specially interesting text about typical motifs which crop up in the Classical System: the advantage of the bishop pair, the placement of the minor pieces, recurring tactical motifs, key pawn structures and pressure against c4 are themes which the author explains with links to sample games. Then there comes the opening theory of the Classical System in 18 chapters. In addition there is also a large reference database of nearly 23,000 games, of which approximately 1000 are annotated. The CD is rounded off with a training database and an extensive opening tree, generated from all the games. All the data on the CD can be accessed with the reader (included) based on ChessBase 9.0. Knut Neven is the editor of the Canadian chess magazine En Passant. He is a correspondence chess player who has qualified three times for the final of the IECG World Championship.

Alexei Shirov
With this DVD on the King's Indian Defence, Alexei Shirov continues the successful and highly praised series about his best games, offering analysis of a high quality and personal insights into his games in his own pleasant and modest style. As is the case with many of his openings, Alexei Shirov plays the King's Indian with both colours. The DVD concentrates on the main line of the Classical King's Indian with Nf3, Be2 and 0-0. In the games - and they are almost exclusively victories - his opponents are renowned experts in this opening, such as World Champion Kramnik and Boris Gelfand with White. The black side is represented, amongst others, by the legendary King's Indian specialist John Nunn and by Teimour Radjabov, who may not yet be a legend, but who is reckoned at the moment to be the greatest expert in the King's Indian. Viktor Bologan
The King's Indian is one of the most interesting and aggressive defences Black can choose. The World Champions Bobby Fischer and Garry Kasparov used to play this opening often, with great success and today's world-class players are employing it frequently: for instance Boris Gelfand, Alexei Shirov and Teimour Radjabov.
On this DVD Viktor Bologan (Elo 2690) presents a complete King's Indian repertoire for Black. In 21 chapters the Grandmaster deals with all possible White reactions, showing the subtleties in main and side variations. The DVD is suitable for both the novice and the advanced King's Indian adherent.
Bologan's explanations are based on his own experience and analyses. Yet the top player knows only too well to whom he owes his successes: Grandmaster Zigurds Lanka, who once taught young Viktor the King's Indian and thus helped him to become a Grandmaster!
Viktor Bologan is a pupil of the top Moldavan trainer Vecheslav Chebanenko. For many years Bologan has been the number 1 in Moldava and has represented his country in eight chess Olympiads. His greatest successes were in 2003, when he first of all won the Aeroflot Open and then the famous Dortmund Tournament, ahead of Kramnik and Anand. The Moldovan has extensive experience as a trainer and has also published his first books.

Dejan Bojkov
The Zürich Interzonal of 1953 and the marvellous annotations of David Bronstein changed our understanding of the KID. From a second-class opening, it became one of the most aggressive and dangerous setups for the second player. Back in those days players tended to develop their queen’s knight to d7. Later a more central approach came into fashion and the knight found a good square on c6. Current practice though, has revealed that there is one more good square for that piece - the a6 one. From this new outpost the knight is heading for the centre without obstructing its own bishop. Bulgarian GM Dejan Bojkov is one of the true supporters of such a development. In this DVD you will find a repertoire based on flexible development whenever possible, and an explanation of some strategic nuances of the KID. The author shares with you a lot of novelties that he had prepared throughout his study of the lines. Dejan Bojkov is a Bulgarian GM, rated 2544. He was Bulgarian national champion in 2009, and is a member of the Bulgarian national team. He is also the current trainer of former world women`s champion Antoaneta Stefanova.

Rustam Kasimdzhanov
This disk is a perfect tool for players looking for a complicated battle against 1.d4. The author suggests the King's Indian Defence and shows, with a number of examples, how realistic Black's chances are to achieve a complex structure with serious attacking potential. Apart from theoretical information, the disk also contains structural insights and an array of ideas which will enable you to incorporate this opening into your repertoire immediately and with tangible success!
The extended 2nd edition is based principally on games which have been played in the last three years with, as Black, either the author himself or top King's Indian expert Teimor Radjabov. This has resulted in the creation of a work on the King’s Indian which not only gives deep insights into the variations and plans but also presents the most up-to-date state of affairs in this dynamic and active opening.
Rustam Kasimdzhanov was born in 1979 and is a grandmaster from Uzbekistan. In 2004 he shocked the chess world by winning the FIDE world chess championship title, beating a string of world-class players like Ivanchuk, Grischuk, Topalov and Adams in the process. Kasimdzhanov is a very deep player, who is able to explain chess ideas in an eloquent, lucid style, with a fine touch of humour. His lessons are both entertaining and instructive.
