Nona Gaprindashvili is a Georgian chess player, born in Zugdidi. the sixth women's world chess champion (1962-1978), and the first female Grandmaster.
Gaprindashvili played for the dominant Soviet Union team in 11 Chess Olympiads and for Georgia in 1992. She won 11 team gold medals and 9 individual gold medals during this period.
