Dorian Rogozenko
Anti-Sicilians (where White does not play 2.Nf3, 3.d4 and 4.Nxd4) are the reason why so many players of the Black pieces are afraid to try the Sicilian for fear of falling into White's pet system. However Rogozenko claims that "Anti-Sicilians do not bring an opening advantage for White." Here he offers a complete, safe and objective repertoire for Black against all of White's Anti-Sicilian attempts. His analysis is in seven chapters: 1. Early Deviations (2.c4/b4/b3/d3/g3/d4) 2. The Grand Prix Attack, 3.The Closed Sicilian, 4.The Alapin Sicilian (2.c3) 5. Miscellaneous Lines with 2.Nf3, 6. 3.Bb5 Lines, 7. System 2.Nf3,d6; 3.d4,cxd4; 4.Qxd4. The presentation is a mixtures of analysis, text and game fragments and includes an index of variations. A one book companion to your main theory sources for any Sicilian player.

John Emms, Richard Palliser & Peter Wells
In Dangerous Weapons: Anti-Sicilians, prominent opening specialists John Emms, Richard Palliser and Peter Wells examine some hardcore ideas for Black in White's most popular Anti-Sicilian systems and some little explored methods for White to throw Black off balance in lesser known Anti-Sicilians. Each "weapon" comes with one or more illustrative games, a theory section and the authors' conclusions, giving the reader plenty of background and ammunition for their own games. In twelve chapters the authors offer bold possibilities in the c3 Sicilian, Bb5 Sicilians, Closed Sicilian and some early divergences for White against both 1..c5/2..Nc6 and 1..c5/2..d6. Tactically sharp positions arise in most cases where the more imaginative player can triumph. Grandmasters John Emms and Peter Wells and International Master Richard Palliser are all highly respected authors and active players.

Richard Palliser
The Anti-Sicilians include such lines as the Morra Gambit, Grand Prix Attack, c3 Sicilian, Closed Sicilian and various other offbeat ideas. For this book I.M. Richard Palliser has put together a repertoire for Black which is sound but dynamic enough to offer winning chances against Anti-Sicilian systems. He tries to offer ideas for both ..e6 and ..Nc6 Sicilian players to make the repertoire accessible to all players of 1..c5. The nine main chapters here cover the c3 Sicilian, 2.Nc3 move order issues, the Closed Sicilian, The Grand Prix Attack, Kingside Fianchettos for White, Queenside Fianchettos for White and Gambits. As usual with Palliser the recommended lines are well thought out and thoroughly researched. Richard Palliser is an International Master from England with a reputation as a diligent and thorough chess author.

Jim Plaskett
The Grand Prix Attack involves an early f4 against Black's Sicilian Defence. Plaskett examines both 2.f4 and 2.Nc3, 3.f4 which can lead to very different systems appealing to different styles of play. The book contains 91 complete games, analysed by the author, covering the various lines of play available to both sides including Black's dangerous 2…d5 gambit against 2.f4. The Grand Prix Attack is a fearsome tournament weapon and Plaskett has been one of it's leading exponents.

Gawain Jones
The Grand Prix Attack is 1.e4,c5; 2.Nc3,Nc6/d6/e6; 3.f4 and offers White attacking chances without having to enter the theoretical jungle which the Open Sicilian has become. White plans a kingside attack with moves such as f4-f5, Qe1-h4, Bc1-h6 and Nf3-g5. This is both direct and often difficult to meet as it is in keeping with the pawn structure. Alternatively White can choose to play Bb5 and Bxc6, hoping to double Black's pawns and play against his weakened queenside. In this book Grandmaster Gawain Jones shows how to play the key systems of the Grand Prix Attack including Black's defences with 2..Nc6; 2..d6; and 2..e6. He looks at lines for White with Bc4 and Bb5 considering both the plans outlined above and shows how both sides ought to approach the positions arising. He includes 36 complete, annotated games with a wealth of strategic and tactical hints and tricks highlighted. An ideal first book for any club or tournament player wishing to take up the Grand Prix Attack or needing a defence against it. Gawain Jones is a young Grandmaster who made his debut for England at the 2007 European Team Championships.

John Emms
The c3 Sicilian is an increasingly popular way of meeting the Sicilian Defence, sidestepping the labyrinth of opening theory associated with open Sicilians. 2.c3 also keeps White on "home territory" and away from Black's pet lines in the Dragon, Najdorf, Sveshnikov etc. The positions that are reached can be either tactical or positional in nature, and the c3 Sicilian particularly appeals to players who enjoy open positions with active piece play and clear objectives for both sides. In this book, c3 Sicilian expert John Emms goes back to basics: he explains in depth the reasoning behind the critical early moves - something that is often neglected - and uses 35 instructive games to demonstrate key plans for both White and Black. He examines the main lines with both 2..d5; and 2..Nf6; as well as more unusual move 2 alternatives. The book includes indexes of variations and games. As with all the Starting Out series, the book is distinguished by it's easy-to read layout, lucid explanations of the fundamentals, and the abundance of notes, tips and warnings to help the reader absorb vital ideas. Starting Out opening books are aimed at experienced chess players who have little experience of the openings in question and who wish to incorporate them into their repertoire.
John Emms is one of the UK's leading Grandmasters and has captained the English Team at two Chess Olympiads. He’s an experienced coach who has worked with many top players, including World Championship finalist Michael Adams.

In this book IM Richard Palliser discusses key ideas for both sides and analyses the position after White's key 6th moves 6.f4, 6.Be3, 6.Nh3 and 6.Nge2. He also looks at early Black deviations and move orders with 2.d3 and 2.g3. The play is illustrated through 42 complete, annotated games which highlight the vital characteristics of the Closed Sicilian.
