Mikhail Botvinnik
The 1963 World Championship match marked the end of Mikhail Botvinnik's fifteen year reign as champion. In a tense, evenly contested, match Botvinnik was eventually defeated by his younger opponent Tigran Petrosian.
This gripping account of the match includes all the games, with annotations by Botvinnik, Petrosian, Akopian, Kasparov and other Soviet Grandmasters. Both players also give their written account of the match. Botvinnik's revealing essay "Why I lost the match" is counterbalanced by Petrosian's analysis of his win, which is also included in this important historical document
In addition the book contains the games of the Botvinnik-Furman training match from early 1963, all other Botvinnik-Petrosian games and analysis from Botvinnik's final notebook. A fascinating and highly instructive report.
Pub. 2010, softback, 142 pages.
