King's Gambit expert Thomas Johansson devotes this book entirely to the Bishop's Gambit (1.e4,e5; 2.f4,exf4; 3.Bc4) a less analysed, but just as complicated, alternative to the more usual 3.Nf3. In addition to an in-depth analysis of the gambit accepted he also offers a White repertoire against all of Black's attempts to decline the gambit including the Falkbeer and Nimzowitsch Counter Gambits and the Keene and Nordwalder Defences. The gambit accepted is covered in 22 chapters including all the main lines, Qh4+ lines, the Nordic Defence, Westerinen Gambit, Silversurfer Gambit, the Scarecrow, Duras Defence, 3..h6; 3..d6; and many more defences. This is certainly the most comprehensive coverage of the Bishop's Gambit ever attempted and the dedicated author has revealed many new possibilities and theoretical novelties in a relatively unexplored opening. A well researched book which is a must for all prospective gambiteers. Thomas Johansson is a strong Swedish amateur and author of King's Gambit for the Creative Aggressor. Pub. 2004, softback, 215 pages. (large format)

A repertoire for White in one of the most exciting openings playable! Text is in both English and German and the author recommends one main line and occasional off-beat alternatives against all Black defences. Johansson thinks that sticking to a fairly narrow repertoire is the best way for White to start in the King's Gambit with it's myriad similar variations. For the pawn White gets more space, active pieces and, often, better pawn structure. Gambiteers should have an active playing style and a creative, non-materialistic approach! Pub. 1998, hardback, 173 pages.
A repertoire book for Black based on accepting the gambit. Schiller offers a sound line for the second player against any and all of White's possible attacks. Pub. 1998, softback, 100 pages.
