SECRETS OF OPENING SURPRISES VOL. 9 SECRETS OF OPENING SURPRISES VOL. 9(CODE n1241)
Jeroen Bosch (Ed)

SOS brings you a wide variety of unusual opening ideas. They may seem outrageous at fi rst sight, but have proven to be perfectly playable. An SOS deviates very early from the regular lines in a mainstream opening, usually even before move six! That is why it is so easy to actually bring the variation on the board. You will baffle your opponent without having studied large quantities of stuffy theory.

Contents:
1 Jeroen Bosch - The SOS Files
2 Daniel Stellwagen - Two Knights: Another Gunsberg Surprise
3 Adrian Mikhalchishin - A Bayonet Attack vs the King’s Indian
4 Jeroen Bosch - Fianchetto in the French Tarrasch
5 Dorian Rogozenco - SOS versus the Sveshnikov
6 Glenn Flear - Seeking Greener Pastures in the Grünfeld
7 Alexander Finkel - A Scandinavian Motif in the Alapin
8 Igor Glek - The Dutch Indian
9 Sergey Tiviakov - Two replies to 3.d4 in the Scandinavian

12 Dimitri Reinderman - English: Nimzowitsch Variation
13 Alexander Finkel - Réti’s Line against the French

CARPATHIAN WARRIOR 2 CARPATHIAN WARRIOR 2(CODE x7015)
Bogdan Lalic & Vladimir Okhotnik

Three years after the appearance of volume 1 the second book in the series continues in similar vein, advocating lesser known but very sharp opening systems. Here the authors focus on two opening systems, one for White and one for Black. For White they focus on the "Golden Spike" against the Modern Defence (1.e4,g6; 2.d4;Bg7; 3.Nc3,d6; 4.g4). They also reprint the "Spike - Anti-Pirc" chapter from volume one thus including a complete "Spike" repertoire for White against the Pirc/Modern in one book. A brief chapter covers the "Krazy Kat Variation" against the Modern. (1.e4,g6; 2.d4,Bg7; 3.Na3) For Black they examine the "Chaos Counter-Attack" (1.d4,g6; 2.c4,Bg7; 3.Nc3,c5; 4.d5,Bxc3+; 5.bxc3,f5;) and the "Accelerated Chaos Counter-Attack" (1.d4,c5; 2.d5,f5;). Analysis is largely languageless with game fragments quoted to support the authors' own ideas. The ideas in the book seem to stem mostly from Vladimir Okhotnik, a Ukrainian I.M. and chess coach. Co-author, Croatian GM Bogdan Lalic, is now settled in England and is a noted theoretician and author of several books.
