UNDERSTANDING THE LENINGRAD DUTCH UNDERSTANDING THE LENINGRAD DUTCH(CODE g8372)
Valeri Beim

The Leningrad System of the Dutch Defence is an interesting hybrid of the Dutch and the King's Indian. For many years, it was viewed with some suspicion in view of the slight positional weaknesses created in Black's position. However, in the 1980s dynamic new approaches were introduced by such players as Sergei Dolmatov, Evgeny Bareev, Mikhail Gurevich and especially Vladimir Malaniuk. These players showed how an active approach could compensate for these defects, and offer Black excellent winning chances. Since then, the Leningrad has been a popular and effective opening choice for players of all levels. This book offers an up-to-date, detailed analysis of the theory of the Leningrad Dutch based around games which typify some important aspect of the defence. Beim considers 1.Nf3, f5; and 1.d4, f5; examining various side-lines before moving on to the critical 7..c6 and 7..Qe8 variations. He also includes a set of "homework" exercises based around standard ideas in the Leningrad System. He offers a balanced coverage with ideas for both sides. Valeri Beim is a grandmaster who lives in Austria. For many years, he was the head trainer at the chess school in Odessa.

PLAY THE CLASSICAL DUTCH PLAY THE CLASSICAL DUTCH(CODE g8388)
Simon Williams

This book offers a repertoire for Black beginning with 1.d4,f5. The author analyses all systems which he considers playable for Black, sometimes giving more than one line of play to suit players of different styles. The book is in three parts:
Part 1 - The Ilyin-Zhenevsky System examines 7..a5; 7..Qe8; and 7..Ne4; as well as White deviations.
Part 2 - Classical Dutch with .. Bb4+ looks at lines where White does or does not fianchetto.
Part 3 - Other Lines covers Alekhine's System, The Staunton Gambit, Other 2nd Moves for White, 1.c4 and 1.Nf3 (including the Lisitsyn Gambit). The Classical Dutch gives an unbalanced position in all variations and so is ideal for attacking players. This is a good first book from English IM Simon Williams.
Pub. 2003, softback, 128 pages.
