The Alekhine (1.e4,Nf6;) is a flexible defence open to a wide variey of interpretations by players of differing styles. Here GM Nigel Davies has picked out the most promising lines for both sides rather than produced a comprehensive work. So there is emphasis placed on 4.Nf3, dxe5; rather than 4..Bg4; although that receives brief coverage. Similarly he believes that White should prefer 4.Nf3 to the Four Pawns Attack and analyses the latter mainly from Black's viewpoint. Davies has included many of his own ideas even where these differ from accepted theory. Coverage is by means of 62 recent annotated games in 10 chapters. In all this book offers the best ideas for both sides in a complicated opening system.
