Three World Chess Championship Matches: 1954, 1957, 1958.
The three hard-fought matches for the World Championship between Mikhail Botvinnik and Vasily Smyslov appear together in a single book for the first time. The matches resulted in one match win for each player with a drawn match in 1954.
The games from the 1954 and 1958 matches are annotated by Botvinnik whilst the games from the 1957 match are annotated by contemporary masters such as Ragozin, Tolush, Aronin and Lilienthal. No complete book on the 1957 match ever appeared in Russian language.
In addition, the contents of Botvinnik's notebooks, containing his opening preparation, from the 1957 and 1958 matches are reproduced here in what is a fascinating account of top-level chess at the height of Soviet domination of the chess world.
The book has been compiled and edited by Igor Botvinnik, nephew of Mikhail, and translation from the Russian is by Steve Giddins.
